1. Imaginemo-nos com 15 anos e pensemos nos sonhos que tínhamos. Independentemente das dificuldades, já vividas ou ainda não, muito provavelmente víamos o nosso futuro como algo incerto, mas bastante linear em termos pessoais, familiares e profissionais.Imaginemo-nos agora com 25 anos. Provavelmente esses dez anos não foram assim tão lineares em face áquilo que tínhamos sonhado e previsto, no entanto se pensarmos nos sonhos que tínhamos daí para a frente então sim, tudo iria ter um curso normal. Façamos o mesmo exercício com várias idades e o resultado é sempre o mesmo. O passado é cheio de turbulência e completamente diferente daquilo que imaginávamos nas o futuro, esse sim será “normal”. Dizem os entendidos que este fenómeno, perfeitamente humano e explicável, resulta de que a nossa mente necessita de prever estabilidade para manter uma certa sanidade. O viver em incerteza permanente não é saudável e é causador de distúrbios, razão pela qual as nossas previsões implicam sempre um cenário de estabilidade. Vivemos claramente tempos de enorme incerteza e talvez por isso o tema de que mais se fala e escreve é “como vai ser o novo normal”! Como vão ser as empresas no futuro, o trabalho, a utilização dos meios digitais, a vida em sociedade e na família é a grande preocupação da atualidade. Tudo vai ter um novo normal.  Todos nós já lemos e ouvimos descrições completas de autênticos “adivinhos” em que tecem as maiores considerações sobre o futuro defendendo os seus argumentos até à exaustão. Até na análise histórica estabelecemos épocas em que fervorosamente acreditamos que tudo foi “normal” e estanque dentro delas. Temos a pré-história, a antiguidade clássica, a idade média, a revolução industrial, os tempos modernos, entre muitos outros, em que tudo foi “estável e uniforme” e quase acreditamos que passámos de um período para o outro como quem, numa casa, passa por uma porta e muda de sala. E, portanto, sendo assim, depois da pandemia virá esse tal novo normal! Urge por isso descobrir e definir como é que ele vai ser!
2. Pessoalmente acredito que as mudanças não acontecem de forma instantânea. Sejam elas quais forem, demoram o seu tempo para se irem incorporando na vida da sociedade e se consolidarem. São um processo, mais ou menos lento, mas para o qual temos dificuldade em definir um exato momento de começo e de fim. Por isso defendo que mais do que olhar para o futuro tentando defender as minhas ideias, imaginando o tal novo normal que fazemos corresponder o mais possível às nossas exigências psicológicas de estabilidade, devemos preocupar-nos com o presente. Relativamente ao passado nada podemos fazer, por definição. O futuro é sobretudo incerto e está carregado de influências que não controlamos. Quanto ao presente chama-se assim porque é aquilo que nos é dado (um presente) no dia de hoje. E nós desbaratamos esse presente olhando para o passado e a tentar prever o futuro. Existe de facto uma continuidade espácio-temporal que nos recusamos a aceitar.
3. Falemos então de stress. Porquê? Tal não é mais do que a incapacidade de ajustar o nosso presente à impredictibilidade do futuro que imaginamos. Pensar num futuro de trabalho online, com empresas sem escritório, competição laboral alargada a todo o mundo, reuniões digitais, o fim dos almoços de negócios, dos cocktails ao fim da tarde, das reuniões/convívios de empresa etc. é para muitos algo perfeitamente inaceitável e impensável. Mas como será de facto o futuro? Uma natural evolução do presente apoiado nos receios levantados por um passado ou algo surpreendente e sem o mínimo de previsibilidade?
4. Por tudo isto nos apercebemos que estamos de facto num mundo em mudança. O futuro tem tudo para não ter normalidade. Será sempre algo em construção. As sociedades, as empresas, as pessoas estão em evolução permanente. Preocupar-nos por antecipação gera stress e poucos resultados. O mundo precisa de quem trabalhe no presente. As empresas precisam de gestores que dediquem atenção ao presente e às solicitações do imponderável.Um amigo meu militar contou-me que há vinte anos, o seu novo chefe de quartel, quando entrou, exigiu que passassem a ter reuniões semanais em vez de quinzenais. A surpresa foi geral porque se pouco havia para discutir de quinze em quinze dias porquê reunir semanalmente? Hoje em dia, dizia-me nem diariamente é suficiente! A mudança ultrapassa-nos a uma velocidade quase estonteante, mas o nosso instinto de sobrevivência procura bases firmes onde possa assentar as bases da confiança.
5. Com toda esta análise importa esclarecer que o futuro se constrói hoje e que nas empresas somos de facto criadores de futuro, mas futuro e futurismo não são a mesma coisa. Por isso é importante perceber no presente quais os sinais das tendências. Vamos ter mais teletrabalho? Parece evidente que sim. Em que moldes? Com que intensidade? Estamos para descobrir. Vamos assistir a escritórios mais pequenos e maior flexibilidade no trabalho? Parece certo. As empresas vão encontrar novas formas de integração dos seus recursos humanos? As indústrias vão estar menos concentradas em termos territoriais do que até aqui, deixando de ter uma única fábrica para toda a europa e às vezes até para todo o mundo, diminuindo o risco de estar num único país podendo, como aliás aconteceu, no caso de uma pandemia ou algo parecido afetar com isso toda a empresa? A relação entre pessoas tenderá a ser menos intensa nos cumprimentos e na vida social? Os negócios tenderão a crescer na sua vertente digital? Viveremos num mundo com mais preocupações de higienização? Daremos mais valor à casa do que à vida no exterior? Vamos receber mais amigos em casa e iremos menos a restaurantes ou não? Passaremos a ter mais preocupações a nível da vida pessoal que “só” o trabalho? Estas são apenas algumas das muitas perguntas com que nos questionamos hoje. Não é o futuro, é agora. E aquilo que fazemos e construímos agora como sociedade vai ser a prática do futuro. Vivermos a criar e a prever um “novo normal” imaginário é arriscado e pouco sensato atendendo ao presente. Saibamos nós gerir o “anormal” em que vivemos e preparemo-nos para fazer face ao futuro sabendo que o mesmo vai ser tudo menos normal.

The Future of Case Teaching Part 5: Where Do We Go from Here?

Up to this point in our series, we have examined how case-method teaching is distinct from other pedagogies, and considered why this mode of learning has thrived since General Shoe Company was published. Here, we turn to what the future will bring.

“The experiences that engage students, the experiences that force them to think critically, to sort out important from unimportant facts, to think for themselves, listen to others, explain their views to others, make a decision—those experiences will continue to deliver powerful learning. What I love about General Shoe is that it allows students to practice a core skill for general managers. How do you go into an ambiguous situation and get to the bottom of it? That skill, the skill of figuring out a course of inquiry, to choose a course of action, that skill is as relevant today as it was in 1921.”

Conversely, we acknowledge the ongoing skepticism about the case method’s value. Cases have been accused of “leaving students with false confidence about what they know.” Some view cases’ ability to teach technical skills as limited. Others contend that cases give insufficient attention to perspectives such as those of organized laborers and underrepresented populations or to moral values.

We thus conclude this series by considering approaches to the case method and developments in cases that we believe will enable them to engage and transform future learners.

The Art of the Case Method Part 3: Exploring the Instructor’s Choreographic Role in Case-Method Teaching

 

Understanding how students can benefit from case discussions offers insight into what case-method instructors can do to increase the likelihood of positive outcomes. The work instructors do behind the scenes to create the context for students’ learning and engagement is just as important as what they do during class. By following the guidance shared and explored here, case-method instructors can enhance students’ willingness to follow this path and to step outside of their comfort zones.

A case-method instructor thus begins considering how to teach by asking questions that extend beyond the objectives for a class session or even a course:

• Who are my students?

• What are their experiences?

• What do they know already?

• What do they need to know?

The answers to these questions depend both on students’ backgrounds and on what courses they have already taken. Case-method instructors who teach later in a program’s required curriculum should account for what their students have already learned and build on this base. In addition, instructors may want to examine students’ profiles so that they understand what experiences these individuals have had and how they might draw on those experiences during discussions.

Mateus Rosé – Making the brand sparkle to Millennials

Com os seus altos e baixos poucas marcas de vinho se podem gabar de serem conhecidas muito mais do que a marca região, ou a marca país, em que são produzidas. O lançamento da nova garrafa do Mateus Rosé em março de 2019 representava mudar uma embalagem quase tão icónica como a garrafa da coca-cola: um cantil transparente, uma ideia que o fundador tinha ido buscar aos tempos da II Guerra Mundial, período em que tinha surgido essa ideia genial : um vinho cor-de-rosa, ligeiramente gaseificado e que tirava partido do excesso de uva do Douro que não era usado para o Vinho do Porto. Uma das razões para a mudança de embalagem prendia-se com a necessidade de conectar com uma nova geração de consumidores – os millennials – de forma a reverter o envelhecimento do produto e da marca e de forma a aproveitar as recentes tendências de socialização deste importante segmento de mercado.
