A empresa iniciou as suas atividades na Argentina como parte do grupo Zass International em 2002 e expandiu as suas operações por toda a América Latina.
Em 2013, a Zass vendeu a sua operação argentina ao CEO nesse país, que reforçou a aposta internacional abrindo operações em Antuérpia, Joanesburgo e Mumbai.
A gestão da Barbuss assentou numa cultura organizacional muito forte, caracterizada pelo espírito empreendedor e elevado empenho dos seus gestores de topo.
Em 2015, a empresa tinha atingido os níveis de volume de negócios e de lucro mais elevados da sua história.
O CEO e proprietário da Barbuss estava a ponderar a forma de continuar o seu crescimento internacional, o que implicaria necessariamente a entrada de novos gestores estrangeiros na empresa e o investimento em escritórios em novos países, questões que uma empresa de apenas 54 pessoas tinha de ponderar, muito cuidadosamente.
