Using his own framework for discussing geopolitics, IESE's Professor Mike Rosenberg will discuss the global geopolitical situation as it is at the end of 2020 and highlight the issues that he believes Portuguese Business leaders may want to think about over the next 6-18 months.
Professor Rosenberg is the author of Strategy & Geo-politics (Emerald, 2017) and lectures on this issue in IESE’s full time MBA program as well as its Executive Programs. His conviction is that business leaders need to spend more time on understanding global trends such as geo-politics and environemental sustainability in order to develop sound business strategy over the medium and long term. He began teaching part time in the MBA and Global Executive programs in 1999 and joined the faculty on a full time basis in 2003. Professor Rosenberg lectures in IESE’s MBA and Executive Education programs, where he teaches strategy, geo-politics, and sustainability and publishes a weekly blog on these topics under the title Doing Business on the Earth. His first book, titled Strategy and Sustainability (Palgrave Macmillan, 2015), is an exploration of the link between business and the environment and looks at the issue more from the perspective of business executives rather than that of environmentalists. The second book is titled Strategy and Geopolitics (Emerald, 2017) and is written to encourage business leaders to pay more attention to what is happening around the planet. Both books offer his own frameworks for looking at these two issues. Prior to join IESE Business School, Rosenberg was the Automotive Practice Leader of Heidrick & Struggles and prior to that he spent 15 years as a Management consultant in Europe, North America and Asia for A.T. Mas quanto valor criarão esses negócios depois do processo de fusão?
A taxa de insucesso nas fusões e aquisições é superior a 70% mas essa realidade fica na sombra, escondida pelo burburinho mediático do processo de fusão. Sucedem-se a turbulência, as demissões de gestores e de membros do Board, etc...
A crise atual criou, no entanto, uma oportunidade única para novas aquisições e consolidações.
Muitas empresas ainda não suportaram todo o impacto económico da crise do COVID-19. Algumas receberam balões de oxigénio através de programas governamentais de apoio, temporários; outras perderam as suas reservas de caixa.
Parece claro que mais e mais empresas ficarão financeiramente stressadas assim que todos os efeitos da recessão pandémica se manifestarem. À medida que o impacto da crise se instala, algumas empresas, anteriormente fortes, fragilizam-se a ponto de se tornarem maduras para serem alvo de uma aquisição. Tal proporcionará oportunidades únicas às empresas mais fortes e bem preparadas para: consolidarem as suas posições; tornarem-se mais eficientes; adquirirem novas capacidades, novas tecnologias e produtos complementares; ou simplesmente conquistar uma posição mais valiosa no mercado.
No entanto, se a história antiga se repetir, muitos CEOs continuarão a embarcar em fusões e aquisições que provavelmente prejudicarão a sua organização.
A evidência passada é clara: a maioria das fusões fracassa. Elas destroem valor acionista e custam biliões às empresas. Importa sublinhar que este não é um fenómeno aleatório. Encontram-se padrões recorrentes em muitas fusões desastrosas.
E, todavia, há soluções para que os CEOs e C.A. aumentem as hipóteses de sucesso nas fusões ou aquisições a que se abalancem.

A AESE Business School volta a juntar-se à ELPing numa parceria de três sessões criadas em torno das questões essenciais da gestão estratégica das empresas e a sua relação com o capital humano.
A primeira sessão do AESE Career Management decorreu no dia 10 de outubro do passado ano e reuniu, com sucesso, representantes das áreas Tecnológica, Mobilidade e Capital de Risco, mais especificamente de empresas de renome como a SAP, a A-to-Be (do grupo Brisa) e a Armilar Venture Partners.
No dia 20 de fevereiro do presente decorreu a segunda sessão do “Landscape Throughout Sectors”, abrindo espaço para três setores em significativo crescimento nessa altura - Saúde, Turismo e Imobiliário - dando oportunidade aos presentes para refletirem sobre os principais desafios, competitividade dos mercados e valorização do capital humano nas empresas. Contámos com a presença de Rui Diniz, VP da Comissão Executiva da José de Mello Saúde, Paulo Mesquita, General Manager do D. Pedro Lisboa e Algarve e Beatriz Rubio, CEO da Remax Portugal.
A 20 de outubro de 2020 decorrerá a terceira e última sessão do “Landscape Throuhout Sectors”, contando com a participação de três sectores basilares na nossa economia: Retalho, Grande Consumo, Farmacêutico.

É atualmente Diretora Geral da Euromadi Portugal, uma central de negociação e serviços integrante do Grupo Euromadi, que atua no mercado nacional desde 2006. Constituída atualmente por 27 associados, agrega 41 Cash& Carry e mais de 2000 lojas de comércio de proximidade, representando cerca de 10% do mercado nacional de FMCG, nas categorias em que opera. .
   Diogo Pereira Dias, Member of the Executive Board da Sumol+Compal. Ingressou no Grupo Sumol em 1998, após um percurso de sucesso na área comercial da Beiersdorf. Como parte do Grupo Sumol desempenhou vários cargos de direção e de administração (2003/2008), sempre em funções de gestão, de vendas e de marketing. De 2009 a 2017 foi responsável pela Unidade de Mercado de Portugal e Espanha e, em abril de 2017, foi nomeado Vogal do Conselho de Administração da SUMOL+COMPAL. Licenciou-se em Gestão de Empresas (1986/1991) pela Universidade Católica Portuguesa tendo posteriormente frequentado uma Pós-Graduação em Gestão Empresarial pelo INDEG/ISCTE (2004/2005). .
Filipa Mota e Costa, Managing Director da Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson. É Diretora Geral da filial portuguesa da Janssen, companhia farmacêutica do Grupo Johnson & Johnson, desde 2016. Em 2003 integrou a equipa da Janssen Portugal onde desempenhou vários cargos. Em 2014 assumiu uma posição na Janssen em Itália onde liderou as equipas de New Product Introduction para o mercado italiano e de Business Development Oncology para a Europa.
