O CEO da CloudComputing e Alumnus da AESE entende que "o ganho simultâneo de maior agilidade e maior prudência é importante na gestão da operação diária, mas também se revela importante na retenção e captura de talento.”
Como o Executive MBA impactou a sua capacidade de liderança e como aplicou na sua carreira? Quando iniciei o MBA já atuava como CEO da CloudComputing há 9 anos. Nessa altura sentia que me faltavam ferramentas para tomar decisões de génese financeira, particularmente em projetos de investimento. Adicionalmente, para além de contabilidade de gestão e finanças avançadas, também pude aplicar outros conhecimentos diretamente na CloudComputing, em áreas variadas como liderança e gestão de conflitos, negociação e marketing.
Na temática de liderança e gestão de conflitos, a necessidade de ter de argumentar sistematicamente com outros seis colegas, com visões diferentes sobre os vários casos de estudo, e fazê-lo novamente em sala de aula com os professores durante os dois anos de MBA, permitiu-me ganhar uma maior agilidade nos processos de tomada de decisão.
É necessário lidar com o contraditório sempre que estamos a trabalhar o método do caso utilizado na AESE, o que torna o processo mais interessante e alinhado com a gestão moderna das organizações. O ganho simultâneo de maior agilidade e maior prudência é importante na gestão da operação diária, mas também se revela importante na retenção e captura de talento.
No final do processo fica uma ambição de fazer maior, de se pensar mais global e de não ter receio de arriscar quando temos o conhecimento e as pessoas certas. No final fica também um grupo de colegas amigos que ajudou na viagem e que serve de referência para fazermos melhor.
2. Qual foi o maior desafio que enfrentou durante o programa e como o superou? Agradeço ao Professor André Vilares Morgado pela forma argumentativa e paciente como apresentou o método de ensino utilizado na AESE. Recordo-me da frase “pelo menos vais divertir-te” quando discutimos a problemática da gestão de tempo. A promessa foi cumprida, apesar da dificuldade na gestão de tempo foi sempre divertido e estimulante.
O maior desafio foi sempre a gestão de tempo, em conciliar o novo desafio de fazer 5 casos de Harvard semanais, estar presente (ativamente) em aula, participar na vida familiar, cuidar de uma menina de 7 anos e ainda liderar e gerir uma empresa de serviços de cibersegurança durante a pandemia.
A família é um pilar que não nos deixa cair. Os colegas, tanto na CloudComputing como na AESE também foram um grupo que, seja pela sua exigência, seja pelo seu companheirismo, mantiveram sempre o foco e a motivação em alta. Nos tempos de maior tropelia houve noites mal dormidas, aí o café ajudou muito.
3. De que forma preparou-o para lançar uma start up recentemente comprada por uma empresa internacional? Com a transformação digital das organizações e a sua maior dependência em tecnologia e sistemas de informação integrados, as organizações tornaram-se mais vulneráveis a ciberataques. Assim, a categoria onde a CloudComputing se destaca, a cibersegurança, em particular a gestão de acesso e identidades, tornou-se numa das áreas-foco das organizações. Por esse motivo, os fundos de investimento privados têm estado muito ativos em projetos de aquisição na categoria. Embora não procurássemos uma alteração na sociedade, começámos a ser abordados por entidades nacionais e internacionais para uma possível operação de aquisição. Vi esta dinâmica como uma oportunidade de aprender e contemplei o crescimento inorgânico como uma possível estratégia de crescimento para a CloudComputing, em particular nos mercados internacionais.
O MBA prepara-nos para lidar com isto de várias formas, sendo as mais importantes o estudo dos modelos de governo das organizações e a aplicação de metodologias para avaliação do valor da empresa.
Em 2022 estávamos focados em crescer internacionalmente através da aquisição de empresas complementares em dois mercados europeus e nesse sentido foi interessante aprender com o mercado. O nosso dilema no processo de aquisição de empresas para a CloudComputing prendia-se com o risco. O que tinha estudado sobre a temática durante o MBA dizia-me que a taxa de falhanço de empresas adquiridas era superior a 70%, tornando o risco de perda financeira neste tipo de investimentos elevado. Assim era crucial aplicar estratégias que reduzissem o risco.
Uma das áreas que tomei maior conhecimento durante o MBA, o ESG (questões ambientais, sociais e de governo), era foco de um fundo sueco que nos abordou, classificando-o como impact fund. Este facto foi suficiente para querer ouvi-los. A sensação que ficou no primeiro contacto foi a transparência do processo. Aplicavam um modelo de governo totalmente descentralizado, permitindo manter a autonomia das organizações, muito semelhante ao modelo presente no Harvard case da Berkshire Hathaway que tinha sido discutido em aula. Em resumo, premiavam um modelo de continuidade e a CloudComputing continuaria a ser a CloudComputing, a cultura e identidades eram mantidas, as ferramentas eram melhoradas. Estas ferramentas eram particularmente úteis no nosso crescimento internacional, nomeadamente na aquisição de empresas para dentro da CloudComputing. Foi a primeira vez que ouvia o modelo que me foi apresentado. Ao fim de alguns meses de análise aprofundada confirmei que o projeto era muito interessante e que criaria oportunidades de crescimento para toda a organização. Assim tomámos a decisão de nos juntarmos à Allurity, um dos principais fornecedores de serviços de cibersegurança na Europa.
É importante considerar que o conhecimento adquirido durante o MBA permitiu melhorar a capacidade de ver o valor onde ele existia e descartar o que era supérfluo.
4. Em que consiste o negócio da CloudComputing? A CloudComputing é especializada em jornadas zero trust. Isto é, quando um colaborador ou um cliente utiliza serviços de uma organização ocorre uma jornada. Por princípio, durante esta jornada deve garantir-se a segurança da informação e ao mesmo a disponibilização de uma experiência excelente.
A CloudComputing entrega o necessário para que a jornada do utilizador que, começa num qualquer equipamento e progride até ao consumo da informação remota, é feita em segurança, dependa do contexto e mantenha a consistência da identidade do utilizador ao longo de toda a jornada. Isto implica necessariamente a aplicação de conceitos complementares, tais como: • Zero trust assessment • Identity governance • Single single-on • Endpoint management and security • Privileged access management • API management • Observability
Ao fazermos parte da Allurity, um grupo especializado em cibersegurança, ganhámos mais algumas competências, com particular relevo em SOC (security operations center) e análise forense, que será desenvolvido em parceria com as restantes empresas, nomeadamente a espanhola Aiuken, a dinamarquesa CSIS, a suiça Securix e as Suecas ID North, Pulse IAM e Arctic Group.
